Course Description:

To fully leverage the New Global AAP Classification your evaluation and assessment of radiographic information is integral to every day clinical practice.  This workshop covers radiographic interpretation changes due to the new classification, provides essentials on how to calculate stage & grade for the periodontitis patient, and reviews normal & abnormal anatomic structures & conditions that may impact your dental hygiene diagnosis, complexity of treatment and prognosis. 

The learning objectives are:

• Define college’s ‘Scope of Practice” on radiographs.
• Identify the limitations of radiographs.
• Interpret the radiographic characteristics of normal and abnormal alveolar bone.
• Differentiate the distribution of alveolar bone loss as localized or generalized. 
• Determine the extent of alveolar bone loss as slight, moderate, or severe.
• Distinguish the pattern of alveolar bone loss as vertical and horizontal. 
• Calculate percentage bone loss for Staging & Grading periodontitis.
• Formulate radiographs required to make a Dental Hygiene Diagnosis.
• Appraise radiographically potential etiologic agents (Acquired and Developmental Conditions) for their impact on periodontal disease.
• Analyze early radiographic evidence of periodontal disease.
• Evaluate radiographic findings.
