Periodontitis treatment outcomes are either “stable” in which modifying and predisposing factors are controlled or in “remission or control” in which modifying and predisposing factors are not fully controlled. Ideally, restoration to periodontal “stability” should be the treatment goal for periodontal disease and can be attained by controlling these three areas: inflammation, predisposing and modifying factors. *
